History
Since the company's founding in 1996, W4's pioneering solutions have helped organisations around the world gain a competitive advantage through increased efficiency, higher quality and bottom line results.



This timeline illustrates the company capacity to deliver BPM as a long term vision.

March 2008

W4 aquires LYRIA, a company specializing in systems for the rapid development of interactive applications. This acquisition allows W4 to extend its offre by integrating the dimension of rapid application development. Thanks to the complentary aspects of the two offers of W4 and LYRIA, the combined solutions will permit business clients, both small and large, as well as public service clients, to develop and rapidly deploy applications which integrate their core business practices and and their organization.


2007

W4 improves upon W4 BPM Suite by integrating a GED connecter with a Document Access Layer component in order to manage processes by exploiting existing enterprise documents.


2006
  • New W4 BPM Suite put on the market. This software package offered by W4 provides all major functions expected from a managements system for business processes (BPMS, Business Process Management Suite) by the addition of complementary components to the core of the original product offer.
  • European sales agreement with Hummingbird, Canadien provider of ECM Enterprise Content Management solutions.
  • Technology contract with Xcalia, editor of intermediary software.

2005

  • W4 launches its new concept of W4 Ready for Business:

Each W4 Ready for Business package is a unique combination of application development and several weeks worth of personalisation and installation. This dramatically reduces the time and effort associated with deploying BPM solutions to match customers’ needs at a far quicker pace than ever before.

W4 Ready for Business uses the new W4 Suite version 5.5 platform, widely recognised as a leading workflow solution.

  • The development framework is based on a series of pre-defined procedures resulting from customer feedback and validated by external consultants. 
  • The services offer covers personalisation, skills transfer and implementation and lasts 10 days. 5 days technical assistance is also included in the package. 


2004

  • W4 becomes the undisputed leader in the French  Business Process Management market by acquiring Akazi Technologies, a pioneer specialist in BPM
  • W4 receives the Giga Excellence Silver Award for a workflow application (Product Launch Management) developed with EMI Music France.
  • Ranked as a leading visionary in Gartner’s BPM “Magic Quadrant” 2004. 
  • Ranked in the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 50 2004.
  • W4 has secured €1.7 Million in funding round. This fund raising fully subscribed and led by the investors will help W4 aggressively advance sales plan and product development activities on the European Market.


2003

  • W4 brings agility to information systems by structuring software layers such as business rules management, and offering new portal solutions
  • W4 completes a fund raising of €4M


2002
W4 creates Process Intelligence  methodology. The W4 Process Intelligence methodology concerns all the enterprise departments, not merely IT, in response to business users needs (quality, supply chain, finance, marketing …). W4 launches its packaged solution W4 Suite comprised of 4 modules: W4 Studio (modelling and generating applications tool), W4 Engine (workflow engine), W4 Library (reusable components), W4 Connectors (Connectors kit to interface with different information systems).


2001

  • W4 proves its ability to integrate its product seamlessly in the enterprise information system thanks to a kit of connectors enabling communication with the lower layers (EAI) and existing applications (ERP, CRM …). W4’s tool reaches a technological maturity level. It can manage the entirety of enterprise processes.
  • W4 becomes International.


2000
W4 proves with France Telecom that its product is able to manage load balancing issues for large accounts in the Java pioneer environment at that time. WELCOME is an application that manages arrivals and departures of consultants and employees for the France Telecom Group. This is one of the largest workflow applications in the world: 150.000 stations, with more than 800 simultaneous users, and 3 millions files generated per year.


1998/1999

  • W4 receives the Anvar Label which acknowledges the innovative dimension of its offering.
  • W4 launches its first administrative and business process workflow application.
  • La Poste selects W4. This first worldwide workflow application running in an Intranet environment is honoured by a  Giga Gold Award.
  • W4 raises €600.000 becoming the French workflow leader.


1996/1997

  • Creation of the company with the following founding concept: to create a synergy between workflow and the Internet. At that time, the issue was to remove workflow from its ghetto (visual applications) in order to emerge into the enterprise workflow market.
  • Version 1.0 is available and the first applications are developed.
